Black Panther Continues to Dominate for a Second Weekend

Black Panther has taken the top spot at the box office for the second weekend in a row. The movie grossed a little over half of its box office take during the previous week. Black Panther is sitting at a box office total of $700 million world-wide in the first two weeks. It is safe to say that this movie will pass the billion mark in the next few weeks.

Three new movies released against the might of the lone Marvel hero movie. Game Night, Annihilation, and Every Day. None of these movies had the power to stop Black Panther from being on top of the domestic box office. Game Night opened with a decent $16 million while Annihilation brought in a dismal $11 million. Game Night is another one of those movies where normal people find themselves in some crazy events. The movie features Racheal McAdams and Jason Bateman as a married couple who end up in a murder mystery game night that wasn’t a part of the plans. Black Panther grossed $108 million this weekend and brought the domestic total to $400 million. The movie still has to open in Japan and China. Those two markets should give the movie the much added bump to a billion dollars.

Weekend Top Five

5. Fifty Shades Freed $6.9 million

4. Annihilation $11 million

3. Peter Rabbit $12.5 million

2. Game Night $16.6 million

1. Black Panther $108 million

Next week, two movies are trying to find a spot in the top ten. Death Wish and Red Sparrow will both be hitting the domestic market. Don’t expect Black Panther to be going down the list just yet. The next few weeks are for those movies that usually release in February and early March since they don’t really fit anywhere else during the rest of the year. The studios will hopefully make a little money on these movies. Expect Marvel to be the top on top for most of the year as Avengers: Infinity War has yet to come out.
