Yesterday, EA released their fiscal financial results for 2018. These showed major growth for EA through the year with large growth in Sims, Battlefield and FIFA. An interesting detail that came from this report however, is in regards to EA’s new IP Anthem. Anthem is being developed by BioWare, which many know for the RPG IPs such as Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic to just name a few. EA has Anthem scheduled for FY2019, which means that we should expect Anthem somewhere between January and March 2019.

Here’s an excerpt from the report showing Anthem is coming Spring 2019:

The past two years have shown many developers and publishers that Spring is the perfect time to launch a new IP. With many people having completed or grown bored of the holiday releases, new IPs thrive during these down times. EA also commented on their goals for Anthem as a game and what they want the main focus of the game to be.

This corroborates a report earlier this year, claiming that Anthem had been delayed. In my discussions with my co-writer Samuel on what we’d see from EA this year, we agreed that the delay seemed likely. It would be an almost definite that we will get more information in regards to Anthem coming this E3. It should be interesting to see how the game has developed since we last saw the early alpha build at E3 last year.  With EA’s microtransaction disaster with Star Wars Battlefront 2, it should be interesting to see how EA handles monetization in Anthem.
