Kudo Tsunodo: Sea of Thieves Will Be The Best Game That Rare Has Ever Made

Many Xbox fans were eagerly looking forward to the mysterious game that Rare Ltd had been working on. Some gamers speculated that Rare would bring us a brand new IP while others thought that we would see a revival of a dormant character such as Banjo. In a way both camps were right as a collection of 30 games known as Rare Replay was announced at the E3 2015 press conference and then a trailer for an intriguing new IP was shown. This new game was set in a mystical world where the dead walk a pirate’s life appears to be anything but easy. This game is known as Sea of Thieves.

While the trailer has piqued my interest, we really don’t know much about the game other than you play as a pirate in a shared world and you can work with other players to man a ship and explore the sea and islands alike. Players can attack other ships and even make each other walk the plank. Sounds great in theory but can Rare deliver?

“It’s about enabling people to create their own stories through limitless possibilities, and I think that’s what Rare has always done a great job of historically.”

Kudo Tsunodo doesn’t seem to be worried. In fact, in a recent interview with Games Radar, Tsunodo seems to be very confident about Sea of Thieves. While details about any sort of campaign or storyline are still vague, it appears that the game will be robust enough for you to create all sorts of stories for your pirate character and all of the other players you team up with… or against. “It’s about enabling people to create their own stories through limitless possibilities, and I think that’s what Rare has always done a great job of historically – it is great at creating these super emotional memories and attachments that people have to games. I think what you’re gonna see in Sea of Thieves as we go forward and start talking more about the game is how [the studio is] enabling that kind of player-generated emotional and memory-driven stories that can happen within a game to happen within Sea of Thieves, Tsunodo said before ending with, “And Sea of Thieves is gonna be the best game that Rare has ever made.”

Sea of Thieves will be released in 2016 for Xbox One and PC.
