Nintendo has been having a phenomenal year in 2017. The Switch released in March and has been a smashing success – it has already eclipsed over 10 million units sold in under 9 months on the market according to Reggie Fils-Aimé, Nintendo of America’s president and COO. However, Nintendo still has another system on store shelves and gamers haven’t forgotten about it. The Nintendo 3DS is still enjoying brisk sales according to Fils-Aimé.

Fils-Aime said, “In the United States we’re on track to actually sell more Nintendo 3DS systems this year than we did last year.” The handheld was originally launched in early 2011 to lukewarm sales but has gone on to sell over 20 million systems in the United States. “That’s incredible for a system that has been out in the marketplace and is enjoying its seventh holiday right now,” Fils-Aime added.

Nintendo has released several variants of the handheld system over the years. The current iterations include the New 3DS XL, a more powerful version which packs a faster processor, an integrated NFC reader for Amiibo figures and a second analog stick. There is also the New 2DS XL has the same features of its older brother except for the 3D screen. Finally, there is the budget priced Nintendo 2DS which plays most of the same games but comes in a wedge shape designed for younger players.
