Alright, Far Space is actually a game I won in a giveaway on Steamgifts. It took less than an hour to complete the game and I thought since I need to let the game idle for another hour+ to get the remaining cheevos (which are all playtime based), I’d go ahead and write up a brief review on Far Space Halloween Edition.
So, Far Space actually exceeded my expectations a bit. That said, I had really low expectations going in. A bit of humorous note is that the game apparently hasn’t been updated since Halloween, hence the Halloween theme for the game.
Anyhow, let’s dive in and see what there is to see.

The story is obviously basic. You are one of three astronauts stuck on a space station that’s been attacked by some alien robotic species. You simply need to escape and get back to Earth while avoiding or destroying said aliens.

Gameplay is a mix of super simple point and click with choices made by simply hovering over your choice of available decisions for a couple seconds. You do move almost insanely slow during these sequences. These sections alternate with some lite-shmup sections that feature pretty terrible aim mechanics. However, despite the game’s best efforts, you will still get past these sections with relative ease. That is basically everything there is to it.
You will fight the camera a bit during the point and click sections, which can be annoying. Load times are nominal though, which was nice.

The graphics in Far Space are actually quite nice. This was easily the developer’s focus as far as this game goes. With the exception of the actual astronauts themselves, everything looked nice and was fairly well detailed.
Oh…also….because it is the Halloween Edition, the astronauts are all Jack-o-lanterns.

The music track in Far Space is suitable to the game. It sounds like something you would expect to hear in a game like this.
The voice over was hilariously bad as was the actual dialogue, such as it is. In fact, it’s fairly well meme worthy several times over. I’m pretty certain it wasn’t meant to be funny, but it was.

Far Space wasn’t a terrible way to spend less than an hour. It is by no means a good game, but as far as bad games go, this could be considered a decent “B” movie type adventure.
Overall, I would give this a 4.5-5 out of 10, but I’m going to go ahead and loosely recommend it regardless, as a decent little time killer with easy 100% achievements.
